Sunward Powers Construction of "Project of the Century" at Yarlung Tsangpo River Hydropower Project

The commencement ceremony for the Yarlung Tsangpo River downstream hydropower project was held in Nyingchi, Tibet Autonomous Region, attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang who officially declared the project underway. As a leading domestic underground engineering equipment manufacturer, Sunward Intelligent Equipment has deployed its 100-meter ultra-deep vibroflotation rigs and other super equipment to support this monumental project.

With total investment reaching approximately 1.2 trillion yuan, this mega hydropower development will construct five cascade dams through river straightening and tunnel diversion. Boasting a total installed capacity of 60-81 million kilowatts (equivalent to three Three Gorges Dams) and an annual electricity output of 300 billion kWh (enough to power 300 million people), this strategic clean energy project will reshape China's energy landscape while driving Tibet's economic growth and ecological conservation.

Recognized as one of the world's most challenging hydropower projects due to extreme geological complexities and harsh climate conditions, the project demands innovative engineering solutions. At the ceremony, Sunward's flagship ultra-deep vibroflotation rig stood prominently on site. Capable of 100-meter vibroflotation depth, this groundbreaking equipment overcomes construction challenges, including penetrating thick gravel layers and enabling multi-machine coordinated operations, significantly improving work efficiency.
