Sunward Excavators Power Major Cambodian Waterway Project

In Takeo Province, Cambodia, the second phase of the Funan Techo Integrated Water Management Project has officially broken ground. The ceremony was attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin, and China Communications Construction Group Chairman Song Hailiang.

Sunward heavy-duty excavators—models SWE375F and SWE385F—will serve as the primary equipment for this landmark project, injecting strong momentum into infrastructure development along the Belt and Road.

The second phase spans approximately 151.6 km and is being built to inland waterway Class I (3,000-tonne) standards. Once completed, the canal will connect major Cambodian river systems including the Bassac, Mekong, and Tonlé Sap, establishing an efficient river-sea intermodal transport network. Together with the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway—invested, built, and operated by China Road and Bridge Corporation—the project will form a dual-axis development pattern, boosting Cambodia's land-water connectivity and industrial upgrading.

Several units of the SWE375F and SWE385F large excavators will take on critical construction tasks. Known for their high efficiency, strong power, and adaptability to complex working conditions, these models have been widely trusted in major projects both at home and abroad.

This participation in the Funan Techo Canal project not only strengthens Sunward's brand presence in the Southeast Asian market but also serves as a vivid example of deepened China-Cambodia infrastructure cooperation and high-quality Belt and Road development.
